Anna Howarth

Anna Howarth ‘I discovered paper artists and shadow puppetry which reminded me of my own childhood memories and which re-awakened some of the more obscure emotions that lay within me. This inspired me to develop my art practice using the medium of paper.

Anna Howarth specialises in intricate papercut artworks that evoke northern European fairy tale and folklore imagery and explore the unconscious, dreams, symbolic imagery, archetypes, fairy tales, and the sacred in nature. ‘These preoccupations are a thread, which loosely connect all my work’, says Howarth, ‘and relate to ideas normally associated with the psychology of the unconscious.’

Anna Howorth studied Fine Art at University of Salford. Since 2000 Howarth has exhibited extensively in the UK and beyond. During this period she has also enjoyed annual representation in major international art fairs.  Her work is included in public commissions such as Mural Artist for Trafford Centre: Manchester; Earl’s Court Exhibition centre; Former Beatles Apple studio: London. She is also the recipient of awards, commissions and private collections.
