The Tom Cross Archive Presentation at Kestle Barton
Saturday 6 July 2pm – FREE
Tom Cross was Principal Falmouth School of Art (Falmouth University) 1976-1987. Following his death in 2009, Cross’s family kindly donated his personal Archive. The Collection contains some 50+ sketchbooks documenting the meticulous preparatory work undertaken throughout his 60 year career as a painter. Cross’s extensive work as an art historian, (with particular interest in the St Ives and Newlyn Schools), along with his time at Falmouth School of Art, as lecturer at the University of Reading, his extensive travels and lifeâ€long interest in architecture, are also well documented.
The Archive is a fantastic resource, with the vast possibilities for use still to be fully explored. There is much material of relevance to those interested in:
– all aspects of art history, particularly C20th movements in Cornwall; Tom Cross’s own extensive work as an artist; the history of Falmouth School of Art and Falmouth University as well as being of interest to those seeking inspiration for their own work.
The Collection is available for consultation by staff, students and members of the public, by appointment, in the Archive Service at Falmouth University’s Tremough Campus.
For more information please visit www.falmouth.ac.uk/archives or email archives@falmouth.ac.uk
Archivist Sarah C Jane will be giving a talk about the contents of the archive in relation to the Tom Cross: Early Paintings exhibition on show at Kestle Barton at that time (15 June – 26 August 2013).
