Sat 22 Oct: Brick making workshop with Brickfield

22 October 2022

End of season opportunities at Kestle Barton:

As part of the Feet of Clay exhibition currently on in the gallery, Brickfield will be offering a brick making workshop on Saturday 22 October.

The brick making workshop runs from 11am – 3pm with a lunch break. Please bring a packed lunch.

Join Rosanna Martin to learn how to make a brick by hand using waste materials sourced directly from the china clay landscape around St Austell, where Brickfield is located. You will learn how to get the right clay consistency, before throwing your clay into special wooden brick moulds with full force to create your brick. The bricks made will be taken back to the Brickfield site to be fired in the mini-beehive kiln next year, unless you want to keep yours unfired. The good ones from the firing will be added to the Brickfield collection for use in a future community build.

Places on the workshop are limited (but age to participate is not!) so please call the gallery to book a place on 01326 231811 or email info@kestlebarton.co.uk

Cost of the workshop is £5 per person

Film and photographic archives from William Arnold’s SEEDHENGE will also be on display in the upstairs space opposite the gallery entrance from 22 – 29 October.
