Joanne Coates: Panel discussion & ‘bulb party’

Join artist Joanne Coates and members of the local flower-growing community for a morning of conversation and an informal gathering at Kestle Barton, as part of Cornish Gold – Custodians of the Soil (12 September – 31 October 2026).
At 11am, Joanne will chair a panel discussion with contemporary flower growers and pickers from the local area, exploring the work, knowledge and seasonal rhythms behind Cornwall’s flower-growing industry.
At 12.30pm, we’ll gather in the gallery for a bulb party. Traditionally, once the hard work of planting the bulbs for the following season is finished, growers and workers come together to share food and celebrate. Our version offers a chance to spend time with the exhibition, meet local farmers and flower pickers, and relax together over drinks and something to eat.
The event is free and open to all, and you are welcome to join us for the panel, the bulb party, or both. Booking is not required, but if you’re planning to come, we’d be grateful if you could let us know at info@kestlebarton.co.uk
